Jo-E Craft Motif

About Us

Our Story & The Artisans Based in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, Jo-E Craft is more than just a brand; it is a movement to empower local women through fair wages and creative expression. We specialize in Ulap Doyo, a highly sustainable and incredibly rare textile woven entirely from local leaf fibers. Each bag is then adorned with Sulam Tumpar, the traditional and vibrant hand-embroidery motifs of our ancestors. Because every stitch is done by hand, no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The 24-Piece Promise We believe true artistry cannot be rushed. To fight the overproduction of fast fashion and to ensure our women makers are never overworked, our community strictly limits our production to a maximum of 24 pieces per month globally. When you carry a Jo-E Craft bag, you are carrying a rare piece of ethical history.

1. The Shield Motif (Tameng) A traditional shield is more than merely a protective tool in battle; it is a guardian of life's enduring values. Every intricate carving is believed to be a prayer, granting its bearer strength, wisdom, and protection throughout their journey. The central embroidery motif symbolizes a resolute spirit, while the cascading natural fibers on either side illustrate humanity's profound connection to nature—a reminder that a resilient life always stems from honored cultural roots. 2. The Doyo Sprout Motif (Tunas Doyo) The Doyo sprout represents a native Kalimantan plant passed down through generations as the primary source of natural fiber for traditional Dayak Benuaq weaving. The newly sprouted shoot symbolizes the beginning of life, hope, and growth. From a humble sprout emerge strong and flexible leaves, which are meticulously processed into fibers to create high-value masterpieces. This philosophy teaches us that every great achievement begins with a small step nurtured by perseverance. The natural fringes on the sides depict the pure Ulap Doyo fibers, providing an authentic touch while reminding us that the finest creations come from a nature we must protect. The natural earthy tones emphasize an elegant, eco-friendly design deeply rooted in cultural identity.
